the KNOTTY SILK'n BEADS - Choker Set
Has 2025 been kind to you? I hope so! let me know (comment below) As the New Year opened up, I found myself drawn to work with colourful glass beads....
Sometimes we just want to sit back and let the rest of the world walk on by and do its own thing while we do ours. I often sit with a cup of tea and let my mind take in what's going on around me as I sew. I often do this at the end of the day as I reminisce and plan ahead. I have written in cafes, rested on a benches to sketch and done embroidery in public. In Paris there was a group that met on Sundays to sew over drinks. Slow stitching is a way to be with yourself whether with others or alone at home, in solo travel ... be that in your own city or town or during quiet times while wandering the world. It both lets others know you're fine alone and also draws like souls to introduce themselves.
The pieces I sew often bring back profound memories of where I was as I allowed my mind to travel - all those times and places. Slow stitching, like writing and drawing are pretty perfect things really. They are a lot like doodling which actually has been found to help with concentration. They don't interfere with our ability to listen. I used to encourage students to draw and write while I lectured. At times we did draw-along-a-thons as I showed them ways of drawing more complex human forms ... the hands and feet and facial features, etc.
It's why I began to make these kits ... to help kick start the process.
